45% of small businesses have a presence on social media, a recent survey found http://bit.ly/2m1Spp.

The survey to 2,000 U.S. small businesses was conducted by Internet2Go and MerchantCircle September 8-18, 2009, found profiles of these businesses on Facebook and Twitter. This lines up with many other channel tracking and ranking reports.

Interestingly, respondents complained of high online marketing costs and a low amount of time to do it right. What intrigues me is how this new media does present new challenges that were absent with previous media. Namely, time requirements.

What these businesses have found out is now that they have laid a foundation they need to build the rest of the house. That sounds like work because it is!

Sorry, there are no shortcuts if you're going to do it yourself. But as my dear old dad used to say, "Anything worth doing is worth doing well." Oh well, he was usually right anyway.
